Policy 114 - School Viability Review

At the June 18, 2024, Regular Board Meeting the North East School Division Board approved the amendments made to Board Policy 114 – School Viability Review.

The Board Policy was substantively updated to reflect current legislation.  In addition, an appendix was created to clearly articulate timelines. The revised policy was publicly posted on June 20, 2024.

Dear NESD Families:

Welcome to the start of the 2024-25 school year.   As many families know or may have heard, Transportation Services of the North East School Division has faced some challenging times that have led to temporary cancellations of many bus routes.  We understand how critical reliable transportation is to your daily routines, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Current route cancellations are due to several factors: a shortage of mechanics, receiving replacement parts, a lack of casual bus drivers, and delays in the delivery of new buses, initially expected in May 2024 but now postponed to October. Additionally, seven buses from 2020 or newer are out of service due to warranty work. The school division is actively working with the bus vendor to ensure these buses return to operation as soon as possible.

We are working diligently to get our buses back on the road, utilizing third-party assistance for bus maintenance ensuring our busses meet all safety standards before being put into service. To address staffing shortages, we are increasing our recruitment efforts.  In the meantime, we appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through these challenges.

The safety and well-being of our students remain our top priority, and we are committed to improving our services despite these challenges. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Transportation Services at 306-873-4555 or transportation@nesd.ca.

Candidates are required to provide a Criminal Record Check along with their nomination form.  The Criminal Record Check must have been completed no more than six (6) months before the date of filing the nomination form.

Nomination forms may be submitted in person by appointment, by regular mail, by registered mail, by fax (306.752.1933) or by email (elections@nesd.ca).
